Florida Scallop & Music Festival

We have been to several of the Port St. Joe Scallop Festivals in years past, but the entertainment planned for this one should knock it out of the park!  I’m very excited about seeing Sister Hazel, along with some of the other bands I’m not as familiar with.  And of course eat scallops!!   Check it all out right here:  http://www.scallopfestfl.org

Oysters on the Forgotten Coast

Most people living in South Florida have never been to the beaches of the Panhandle. Maybe they have driven along I-10 heading somewhere else, but not to the gorgeous beaches we have on the Forgotten Coast. Well, that might change in part because of a wonderful article this past weekend in the Miami Herald, talking about the area’s beaches and oysters:

Family Reunions at Seagull Landing

Lots of the folks that stay at Seagull Landing are related… to each other!  We host many multi-generational family reunions at the house and love hearing about how much fun people have there.  This article from the Wall Street Journal talks about these family vacations and opportunities for cousins to get to know each other:

Plein Air 2015

Well, I left Seagull Landing about a week ago.  I must say, it is looking fine!  Aside from a few trips to Apalachicola (one of my favorite places on the planet) and Plein Air events, I cleaned and scrubbed that house…  it is more than ready for our busy summer rental season.

But I digress.. this post is supposed to be about the Forgotten Coast Plein Air 2015.  I am so glad that I was able to attend some of the events and be there for this awesome week.  Artists and visitors from all over the country, with some international folks sprinkled in, were there.  The talent I witnessed of the Plein Air artists was just superb.

Here are some pictures I took during the week:

PleinAir_May2PleinAir_May2_2 Quick draw contest in Apalach on May 2

Joan_PleinArt_PaintingI took a two hour private painting class with the incredible Katie Dobson Cundiff (who, by the way, won second place in the Quick Draw!).  This is my painting, not too shabby but I had a lot of help!!

PleinAir_May4 PleinAir_May4_1 PleinAir_May4_2Lunch and learn with Charlie Hunter.    His method of monochromatic painting was so interesting to watch, and produced such a lifelike image.  Very inspiring.

PleinAir_May5 PleinAir_May5_1Lunch and learn with Shelby Keefe in the Windmark Village center.  Great watching her pull together this still life painting.

PleinAir_May5_2A very talented artist (my sister in law!) working at a Painting Station on the Apalachicola riverfront.

And last but not least, here are some thoughts about this past week’s Plein Air from the local newspaper, the Star:

I’m looking forward to attending next year’s Forgotten Coast Plein Air event!!
